Guten Morgen.
And so there begins - and ends the - extent of my german vocabulary.
But, I have signed up for German lessons in the hopes that I will soon be jabbering away in Germanic (although, seeing as I have a terrible time with languages, likely not).
Anyhow, I just thought that I should occasionally update y'all with whats been going down here in Alemania.
My health, that's what. Down the drain. Yup, I am sick; MY FIRST GERMAN COLD! (...woot.) It has been quite the joy to suck on the german halls-like-candies (vivil) and throat lozenges. Last night, it was also fantastic knowing that as I sat in my room- moping in self-pity, hoping for a magic insta-better pill, leeking my brain out of my nose, sneezing like no tomorow (sneezing? ya, I'm confused too... I never sneeze) and coughing up my left lung- there was a thrilling bonfire happening 30 feet away with thrilling bonfire songs and other thrilling bonfire usuals.
I've been sick since tuesday? But the self-pity moping thing was mostly just last night, don't worry. I'm not completely emo yet.
So before I left, Karl, almost as a side note/ afterthought, gave me this one tidbit of advice "Watch out for the German spiders." I assumed that Karl was just in one of his 'look out for the worst case senario' moods, making fun of me and making a big deal about nothing. But no. Seriously, there are spiders everywhere. It's like the worst thing ever! At least at home the spiders hide and I only find them when I move something that they have taking a shinning to. But here there is nothing of that sort. The spiders are not afraid of the people and they sit everywhere. On the walls, on the ceiling, in the bathrooms, on the balcony... they are huge, fat and so, SO GROSS! Even as i sit typing this, I can see one on the ceiling like 6 feet away from me and I bet there's a bunch that I don't want to look for. Ugh. I don't even scream when I see them because they have completely lost their element of surprise. I strongly dislike them. Next time Karl, I will listen to you.
What do you guys want to know about?
Food = DELISH. But there is so much bread. Like at every meal.. it is insane. I am going to gain so much weigh from bread alone. I need to stop eating it.
Weather = Lovely, the mornings are somewhat chilly but the afternoons feel like August, and lately there has been a hint of wind in the evening, a nice October breeze. It is quite pleasant :] I like.
People = Super nice. Everybody here is so cool. Theres a girl from Japan and for international night (which was on friday) she dressed another girl in a kimono-like thing and did some Karate for us and it was so cool :) AANNDD before, when I thought "European people" I imagined people from France and Italy who were super fashionable and that jazz.. and yes, I have since realised that was a very narrow and steryotypical view point, but there is a girl here from France, who is GORGEOUS andd worked at a fashion company and did some design works and stuff.. and when she did her presentation for international night, she "brought a little bit of Paris" by wearing her 500E heels that were given to her as a going away gift from the company she worked for. I am a tad bit envious. But, to give the gyst: Everybody here is so awesome and unique, it's nice.
Room = I'm in a room designed for 10 people, but there are only 8 girls which means we have a lot of space :) It is great. I like my roomies. They are awesome girls.
Hiking in the Alps = like Grouse Grind, but worse for an hour. It sucked... haha. But was really cool, I had hotchocolate in a little cafe in this mountain valley and it was quaint and cute. And there was a guy herding sheep and all the cows had bells. I felt like Heidi. It was very picture-esc? esque?
Lectures = enjoyable. I am learning a lot. I have a note-book, if you want to see what I am learning, you can see it when I get back. Or just facebook me? I don't perticularily feel inclined to write it all out.
The PAPA Prayer = We have to read it, and then write an essay. It is good. You should read it.
Mailbox = Empty.
Erm.. yeah, that about finishes that list.. if you want to know about anything, just let me know.

Hey Alicia, it is nice to hear about what is happening over there. It is snowing in Alberta today, feels like winter instead of fall. However it is slippery enough to fall. Have a great week, Love Auntie Pam

Chuckling I was as I came to the end of your blog. Yes, amusing it must be to see you in your current distress of said Arachnids.
ReplyDelete=]
Don't worry, I had a frightful dream about spiders the other day so I assume that was my pre-punishment for my chuckling of which I fore-mentioned.
